Be the Change Group is looking for a skilled nerd with a drive to help make an impact through coding!
Did we mention that, unlike most skilled nerds, our developers don’t actually work in a dark cave, but have mountain views instead?
Be the Change Group is a full-service research firm and creative agency. Social impact and effecting change are at the forefront of every project we take on, from health care to environmental sustainability to education. We pride ourselves in our adaptability to client needs and agility in our practice. Our team works out of a beautiful and spacious Strathcona office with large mountain-facing windows, and we support and foster healthy and collaborative remote working options for our core team and contractors alike.
Our clients are thought leaders and innovators who advocate, educate, and create brighter futures for the communities they serve. They include the UN Climate Change Secretariat, BC Children’s Hospital, the BC Emergency Medicine Network, Interior Health, and GreenCare. We solve their problems with research, design, and technology. These projects include an online tool to connect BC emergency physicians across the province with the goal of improving patient outcomes; a first-of-its-kind, real-time safe drinking water map for the public to learn about their water; and animations to help people understand the impacts of climate actions.
But enough about us and our clients. Let’s talk about you!
As a web developer you will have the support of, and the opportunity to collaborate with, our design and development team. This contract position is best suited for someone whose finger is on the pulse of the latest web technologies, who is motivated to learn, and who can work really well with a team and independently. We have opportunities for smaller contracts, e.g. 10-20 hrs per week, with the opportunity for this to grow into more hours; your own projects to lead; and possible employment in the future if it is something we all want. Please tell us what you are looking for in your application.
Here’s what we’re looking for in an ideal candidate:
- Strong knowledge of custom WordPress is a must, including building themes and plugins from scratch, troubleshooting, and maintaining existing sites, including bigger builds with different functionalities
- Good command of GitHub version control
- Following a few coding practices we have established, but freedom to build upon this base
- Attention to detail and design requirements
- Willingness to learn and constantly develop your skills
- You will likely attend client meetings and present your work and process, so good communication skills are a must.
- Bonus: a good understanding of UX design methods
